Here is a link and PDF file of The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. 2/5/2016 - If we are unable to finish Chapter X today, you will be responsible for reading it over the weekend and finishing the questions to turn it in on Monday, 2/8/2016. In the file, Ch. X "The Leech and His Patient," starts on page 193.
Welcome back. As we start this new year, we will begin reading and studying The Scarlet Letter. Below are the notes to the introduction of the book.
As we have talked about in class, your final project is a multi genre research paper on a book of your choice. Below you will find the information that was passed out in class. I look forward to seeing what you create! The final project for the Independent Reading is to do the required book report. I passed out the worksheets in class. Here is the PDF version if you need to print it at home. Beginning Tuesday, September 8, I will be checking journal entries for the independent reading. Remember which row you are in and what day will be your check. Be sure to keep up and fill out your study guide. The handout is below if you lost yours. The guidelines for the journals are in the handout titled Independent Reading Guidelines that I gave everyone.
Independent Reading Study Guide Today we went over what a Socratic Seminar is and what it is NOT. We also talked about creating open-ended questions. Come to class prepared with 5 questions to talk about during the discussion. Here are the handouts from today. **We will meet on the stage in the cafeteria*** Tell your class!!! We are about to begin our independent reading journey. Be sure to pick a novel by an American author. If you found a book that you think you may like to read, do a quick search of the author to where they are from. We have wrapped up our second week of school. I hope it was a good one for you. Going over the homework analogies, I've noticed that many struggled with the assignment. Check this link out to watch a short video to hopefully get a better understanding Analogy Lesson or read about hit here, and click here to see it explained better. I will return papers to give you a chance to improve your grade. Analogies may seem unimportant, but you will continue to see them in many high stakes test throughout your school careers and even on some job applications. This exercise was also to help you with learning and remembering your vocabulary. All links are on the Website page as well. We also worked in class on creating an original origin story. I highly recommend you creating a Google document so that you can work on it as a group outside of school. Check out the tab Websites for instructions on how to create a shared document. Monday, August 24, we will be going to the library to pick a book out for independent reading. I will be giving out more instructions for this activity on Monday as well, but the criteria thus far is:
If you would like to research an author before we go to the library, here is a list of American author's that may help you. Click on this link for the American Authors List in google drive or download the file below.
