One week to go before Thanksgiving break! YEA! Before we know it, the semester will be over. Here is this weeks calendar and a few notes too. We are continuing with our reading of Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress. We are listening to an audiobook that I paid for. I have not found a free version. Students can buy the book (used copy) or check one out at the public library if they would like a copy at home. The first part of the study guide can be found below.
As the semester comes to an end and as my syllabus states, I will not accept any late work after December 07, 2018. Late work does not receive full credit, but something is better than a zero. I have the signs posted on my room door and wall, will inform students verbally, and give them a half sheet reminder. The sign looks like this:

We will read The Flying Tortoise: An Igbo Tale. This folktale is found in chapter 11 of Things Fall Apart. As a class we will read it from a storybook. Students will then pick groups to work in in order to create their own folktale. The above calendar is an outline and is subject to change. Welcome to the new school year! I hope 2018-19 will be a great year for all of us. Below you will find the 10th grade syllabus and classroom expectations.
We are having a rough start to the school year! Students enjoy your days off but be sure to keep up with the work. Due Monday, 1/22/18, as soon as you walk in and no excuses: 1) Vocabulary #14 - Night #2 https://quizlet.com/_4alnne 2) Bell Ringer Week 12 COMPLETED. You can watch the video for Thursday here. If the video does not play, you can still answer the question. Remember to fill everything out for each day and the requirements for receiving full credit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpaOjMXyJGk 3) We have started reading Night by Elie Wiesle. We need to be finished reading chapter 1. If you are unable to get a book from online or a used bookstore, here is the PDF and an audio of it. You are responsible for CHAPTER ONE and the study guide questions (I do not have a copy currently to upload). Read pages 3-22 on the PDF. You can find the whole audiobook here.
Jan 8-12 This is where we started. If you were absent for any days, or missed turning in any home work, start here. 1) Students worked on 2 crossword puzzles to familiarize themselves with people, places, and words that they needed to know. These were turned in for a grade.
2) Students also had to use a QR reader to scan a sheet with information regarding the Holocaust. Each QR plays a video and students had to write down the information on the worksheet. (FYI - 1959 is missing) This is a grade.
3) Students did Night vocab #1 and Bell Ringer 11 to start the new year off. If you don't have the handouts, go to my bell ringer page and write the information down on your own paper. (graded) 4) Students took background notes. Here is the PowerPoint and guided notes to fill out
As the semester comes to an end, we are reading Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. Below you will find the audio of the book so that if you miss a day or need to review the story, you can find the chapters here.
