We will be starting Antigone and need some background information. Please use BOTH the readings to fill in the study guide. Study guide does NOT go in order.
With Map Testing coming to an end, we are reading about African Kingdoms and Empires to introduce us to early great civilizations and literary traditions. You can find the PDF files of the reading and study guide below. Study guide must be completed by the end of class Thursday 9/28/17. This weeks vocabulary is attached and can be found on quizlet.com. https://quizlet.com/_3rtmuy We will work on reading and interpreting African proverbs. Each student will complete a proverbs project. Week 2 Bell Ringer (with link) is below in a PDF format. You can write it on a separate piece of paper if needed. Friday, 09/29/17, Activity Look at the list of African Proverbs. Pick 4 from different tribes. Fill out the form titled Proverb Interpretation and Comparison by writing down the proverb and tribe in the first column and then in the second column, write what you think the proverb is trying to say, or your interpretation. Do this four times total.
As we continue with our Africa unit, we are currently focusing on the dangers of a single story. Follow the PowerPoint, answer the prompts, read the article, and watch the videos. These are graded assignments. Thursday's bell ringer requires you to watch a video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2IU1h9sG7U&nohtml5=False Monday - vocabulary and puzzle were assigned. Thursday - Vocabulary quiz on the last 2 vocabulary homeworks (SAT Vocab #4 and Academic Vocab #1). Both are on quizlet. Friday (9/22), Monday (9/25) and Tuesday (9/26) will be MAP Testing.
Creation myths from around the world has been our focus for the past few weeks. Here are the 5 stories in PDF form as well as the PowerPoint. We are working on an compare/contrast essay in class. There will be a test over this information as well.
We are finishing up Animal Farm with the end of unit test on Monday 3/13/2017. Next up will be Julius Caesar. This unit will take longer, and hopefully, will be enjoyed. First Vocab will be due Tuesday 3/14. Can find it on quizlet. https://quizlet.com/_3890s3
We have finished the book Night and taken an end of unit test. We will watch a movie to further look at the Holocaust. Our next reading will be Animal Farm by George Orwell. We will start the vocabulary for that book this week. Quizlet.com https://quizlet.com/_31lpia
This week we will be finishing the book Night. There will be a summative test on the book once we are done. The study guide will be due when you take the test. The study guide counts as a quiz grade.
